Birds Migrate to China's Poyang Lake 30 11 2011
On a lighter note, as winter approaches, birds are flying south--to Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China, in eastern Jiangxi Province.
According to staff at the Poyang Lake National Nature Reserve, the flocks of birds will head to their yearly watery habitats until mid-December. An estimated four hundred thousand birds will perch there this year.
The white crane, one of the most endangered species in the world, flies 3700 miles from northern China to Poyang Lake when the cold season draws near.
