China Inaugurates the highest bridge-tunnel and around the world
The highest and longest bridge in the world will open Saturday in the central province ofHunan, China.
The bridge, called the Bridge Aizhai has an extra large suspension will attach twotunnels with 1,176 meters in length to 355 feet above the canyon Dehang Hunan.
A key section of the highway Jishou-Chadong has 64 miles pass through the two-waybridge for cars, while the highway is four lanes for motorcycles.
The structure rests on a base of 24.5 meters wide and is designed to withstand wind speeds of around 80 kilometers per hour. Motorway tunnels through 18 in total, whichcover about half of its length.
The construction of the bridge began in October 2007, its major sections were completed in late 2011. The temporary bridge opened to pedestrians during the holiday season and the Spring Festival in February 2012.
The bridge is designed to help alleviate traffic on the hill, where traffic jams are commondue to its steep and narrow winding roads.
The bridge also has 1,888 lamps for increased visibility at night
